New Utility Box Art Honors City's History
Posted on 03/25/2025

Newcastle’s latest public art installation is officially in place! Earlier this month, a vibrant new utility box wrap was installed at the corner of Coal Creek Parkway and Newcastle Golf Course Road, adding another artistic touch to the city’s landscape.

Designed by artist Dee Reagan, the artwork titled Heritage Glow evokes the warmth, pride, and legacy of Newcastle’s history. The piece symbolizes the light shining from the traditions and sacrifices of those who helped shape our community, transforming an ordinary utility box into a striking tribute to the area’s coal-mining past. “Make sure to get an up-close look at this piece of art as there is a hidden sasquatch in the illustration, which should be a fun reward for those who can find it” said artist Dee Reagan.

“We are very excited to help bring another permanent art installation to Newcastle and specifically one that helps us celebrate our history.  Art can bring such joy to a community and brighten up our public spaces” said Edward Flash, Co-President of Newcastle Arts Council.

This project was made possible through a partnership between the Newcastle Arts Council and the City of Newcastle, with funding provided by both organizations. Thank you to the Newcastle Arts Council for leading this effort and bringing local history to life through art. Be sure to check it out next time you're in the area!
