Newcastle is a thriving residential community within the fabric of larger urban areas that has retained its small town spirit as it has evolved. City staff is committed to working with developers on creating projects that further improve Newcastle according to the desires of the community as expressed in established plans and regulations. The capabilities of our professional staff are supplemented by the resources of contracted experts. Together we can achieve highest and best use consistent with the established environment and future expectations.

Last year, the city adopted a revised vision for the future with the approval of the Newcastle 2035 Comprehensive Plan. This year officials and staff are in the process of developing a Downtown Newcastle Strategic Plan with extensive participation from the business community and the public. Data that will be used for the strategic plan was provided by a study called the Newcastle Community Business Center Assessment. The study and its appendices illuminate current economic and demographic conditions in Newcastle. Other established long term plans can be found on the city's website at this link.

Permitting Process
The city's staffing and technological resources are designed to provide the development community and do-it-yourself homeowners with the highest possible level of efficiency in application processing and permit issuance. Permits that do not require plan review can be obtained online at MyBuildingPermit.com. Find all required application forms here and associated fees in the Council's adopted fee schedule. Permit applications may be submitted at the permit counter between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
