The City of Newcastle offers a variety of recreation opportunities for youth designed to keep kids active, engaged, and connected to the community.

Year-round youth sports programming is available at Lake Boren Park through Skyhawks, providing fun and skill-building activities for children from preschool to 12 years old. Popular offerings include soccer, tennis, flag football, beach volleyball, multi-sports, and more. Whether a child is learning a new sport or building on existing skills, these programs create a fun and supportive environment for all experience levels.

Newcastle also offers a range of summer camps designed to keep kids engaged throughout the season. These camps provide a mix of fun and learning, giving kids the opportunity to explore their interests, stay active, and make new friends.

Skyhawks Spring Season

Skyhawks spring season offers youth sports programs at Lake Boren Park for kids ages 2 to 12, including some exciting new classes. Flag football and pickleball have been added to the lineup of community favorites basketball, soccer, and tennis. There are several more options for tots classes as well.

The first session of classes begins on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 with two additional sessions starting in mid-April and mid-May.

Skyhawks Summer Camps

Skyhawks summer camps offers youth sports programs at Lake Boren Park for kids ages 4 to 12. Summer 2025 camps included beach volleyball, cheerleading, flag football, soccer, tennis and more. Half day camps run 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Full day camps run 9:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Preview Summer

Art Camp with AL Studio

New last year! AL Studio Art Camp at Lake Boren Park offers a creative, nature-inspired experience for kids ages 7-12. Campers will explore canvas painting, drawing, clay crafts, and more, all while socializing and learning in a fun, outdoor setting. The 2025 camp ran July 7-11, with full-day and half-day options available for a maximum of 30 campers.

STEAM Camps with Challenge Island

New last year! Challenge Island STEAM Camps offer playful, imaginative experiences for children ages 6-12. These award-winning STEM + ART camps run from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Lake Boren Park, featuring fun themes like Slimetopia, World Cruise, and Arcade Mania. The 2025 camps ran July 14-18, August 4-8, and August 11-15, with a maximum of 30 campers per session.
