Roundabout Construction and Detour for SE May Creek Park Dr.
UPDATE:
SE May Creek Park Drive Construction Lane Closures
Construction of the new roundabout on SE May Creek Park Drive is ongoing. The developer for the May Creek Park Assemblage plat did not meet their schedule commitment due to unforeseen utility issues as well as labor and material delays. City staff has denied the contractor’s request to extend the duration of the road closure.
The roadway will reopen as scheduled on the morning on Monday, July 18. However, motorists will experience significant delays as the roadway will be restricted to single-lane alternating traffic with the deployment of a temporary traffic signal, and users are encouraged to take alternate routes. This restriction will be in place 24-hours a day until construction of the roundabout is complete. Beginning July 18, vehicles will be traveling on compacted gravel. It is recommended that cyclists avoid the area until paving is completed, which is currently scheduled for July 22, 2022 .
ORIGINAL STORY:
A new roundabout is being constructed on SE May Creek Park Drive. Construction of the roundabout will take place from Monday, June 27 through Monday, July 18, 2022. During this time, SE May Creek Park Drive will be closed between the 12400 block and 12500 block 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
A road closure was determined to be the safest option for both the traveling public and for tradespeople because of the proximity to the roundabout construction zone to adjacent steep slopes, wetlands, and Newport Hills Creek. The road closure and detour will alleviate long flagger delays during the day and prevent vehicles negotiating the construction zone at night.
Advance signage with detour information will be posted Monday, June 13. City staff have notified Coal Creek Utility District, Newcastle Police, Bellevue Fire, and Waste Management.
