Councilmember Comment

Councilmembers included positive comments about the past weekend’s Lunar New Year celebration at Aegis Gardens, which they noted was very well attended and a great community gathering.

Welcome, Chief Kajihiro!

As you may have heard, Newcastle Police Chief Jason Houck has accepted a position within the King County Sheriff’s Department at the City of SeaTac. At this meeting, Chief Houck re-introduced our new chief, Steve Kajihiro. Incoming Chief Kajihiro was a member of the Newcastle PD for 18 years before accepting a promotion to sergeant with the Burien Police Department (another King County Sheriff's Office contract-city department), where he’s served the last four years.

City Manager Report

The written report covers upcoming events and staffing updates, as well as information on new public art in Newcastle, a call for youth artists for an exhibition at the library, information on the recent windstorm response, and more.

A Regional Coalition for Housing (ARCH) Resolutions

The 2023 ARCH workplan was presented by ARCH’s executive director, Lindsay Masters. After this, the ARCH 2023 Housing Trust Fund Allocation was presented. Both corresponding resolutions passed.
