The Planning Commission serves an important role in city government. The Planning Commission provides advice and makes recommendations on the Comprehensive Plan and Development Codes to the City Council. The City Council assigns an annual work program, which may be modified during the year, by the City Council, if unforeseen needs arise.
The Planning Commission is comprised of seven members and is staffed by the Community Development Department. Members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. An advisory board to the Council, the Planning Commission reviews and makes recommendations on amendments to the Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Code and other city land use and policy issues.
The Commission meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers located at 12835 Newcastle Way, Suite 200, Newcastle WA.
